A structured six-week introduction to jewellery making

If you’ve always fancied learning to make jewellery but aren’t sure where to start, this course is designed to take you from complete beginner through the foundations of silversmithing, one project and beautiful piece at a time.

Perhaps you’ve been wanting to do something creative for a while, miss making things with your hands, or simply love jewellery and have always wondered whether you could make it yourself. Over six weeks, you’ll have a regular evening set aside to get away from the usual routine, work with your hands, and learn something completely new.

Most people come to the course on their own, and the small group soon settles into a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Each technique is demonstrated step-by-step, with plenty of individual help along the way and time to practise and ask questions.

Each project introduces new techniques while building on what you’ve already learned. There’s something incredibly satisfying about starting with a piece of metal and gradually turning it into jewellery you genuinely want to wear. “I can’t believe I made that!” is probably the thing I hear most often by the end of a project.

By the end of the six weeks, you’ll have made several pieces of your own jewellery and have a solid foundation in sawing, soldering, filing, shaping, texturing, polishing and finishing—and quite possibly a new favourite way to spend a Thursday evening.
